International Youth Day or IYD, designated by the United Nations is an awareness day. The main purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues that surrounds the youth of today International World Youth Day August 12,2017.
International Youth Day is celebrated on the 12th of August. IYD’17 falls on a Saturday. The basic theme of the International Youth Day 2017 is Youth Building Peace. It is an opportunity for the governments all over the world and others to draw their attention to the issues of the youth worldwide.
During IYD, workshops, cultural events, meetings and concerts involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place all around the world. The goal is to improve global sustainable production and consumption and lead the younger generation to eliminate the poverty! International Youth Day has a different slogan and purpose each year. Say for example in the year 2014 it was ‘Youth and Mental Health’, in 2015 it was ‘Youth and Civic Engagement’. The theme of the 2016 International Youth Day is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production” International World Youth Day August 12,2017.
Every Youth Day is associated with various events all over the world. International Youth Conferences are held which comprises of speakers from different countries and from various fields of work, followed by Youth awards ceremony and debates and discussions which are spirit kindling. One such conference was held in 2013 which was hosted by YOUTHINK, the US Consulate General, Chennai and the Youth Exnora. The event had it’s own impact in empowering the youth power. IYD 2017 is dedicated to celebrating the contributions of the young people in conflict prevention and transformation as well as inclusion, sustainable peace and social justice. The International World Youth Day August 12,2017 is not a public holiday but it is a day for the observation of the United Nations. This day promotes the benefits and advantages that the youth brings to the world. The UN defines the worlds’ youth as the age group between 15 and 24 years old, which comprises of one sixth of the Human Population. On this day , events like parades and mobile exhibitions etc are also held which showcase the achievements of the youth. The logo of the UN is often associated for the marketing of these events. The world map on the logo represents the people of the world and the olive branches symbolize peace.
Many countries participate in such events and discuss topics like Employment and Education. This event encourages the active involvement of youth in maintaining peace and security and makes this world a better place to live in for us and the generations to come! ☺
